Summer In The High Country
Get away from it all and relax in comfort and style at Dinner Plain.
Just under 2 hours from Wangaratta and Bairnsdale travelling along
the Great Alpine Road.
There are loads of activities for everyone from walking, mountain
bike riding, horse riding, scenic chair lift rides, fishing, enjoy
them all and take in the breathtaking views of the Victorian Alps.
From the village you can explore the new walking trails being created
by Department of Sustainability and Environment crews, in conjunction
with the Dinner Plain Landcare Group, in the state forest areas
adjacent to the village. Or take on the challenge of walking or
cycling the Mt Hotham to Dinner Plain Ski Trail. Trail maps and
information available from our office.
Base yourself in the cool of the high country and plan some day
trips to the historic Blue Duck Hotel north of Omeo, wineries of
the Ovens Valley, or exploring the cattlemen's huts of the high
country. The Bogong High Plains Road is fully sealed, creating a
unique alpine touring loop between early November and late May every
year. Visit our office to check the route.
You can also have a hit of tennis on Australia’s highest
tennis courts where just watching the way the balls bounce at altitude
is enough to work up a sweat.
For those who wish to experience the High Country on the back of
a horse, Dinner
Plain Trail Rides have the ride for you! Explore the High Country
as you have never seen it before. Take in spectacular views, cross
mountain streams, ride through sub-alpine and alpine ecosystems
taking in all the natural flora and fauna.
Along the way enjoy the open plains with the chance to see wild
brumbys, kangaroos,emus, wombats and more.
If relaxing is more your style, enjoy a picnic amongst the wildflowers,
gentle walks throughout the village, have a BBQ on your own balcony,
or at either of the two public BBQ’s in the village.
Indulge yourself and spend a weekend away in a fully self-contained
apartment or chalet with everything at your fingertips. Enjoy great
high country cooking in our restaurants or have a drink and chat
with the locals. Whatever it is you enjoy you will love Dinner Plain
in the summer!
